Famous Traditional Malaysian Cuisine!






Malaysia cuisine is consist of Chinese, Malay, Indian, Nyonya, Portuguese and Eurasian dishes. A country of tropical climate with refreshing downpours of monsoon rain, multi cultures and a very wealthy of culinary heritage.

In the early year this country is a hub of traders not only from neighbouring countries but as far as Europe and Middle East Asia. This is how the spices and ingredients such as pepper, ginger and cardamon are introduce to local people. Which are now essential in Malaysia cooking.

Now with modern technology, like internet. You can have these recipes just a click away, no matter which part of the world you are from.

In this blog I will share and introduce to you the recipes that you can prepare in a simple apply method.

From traditional Malaysia cuisine to Nyonya dishes, they are yours in minutes, of course, a little help from you. You have to cook it.....(smile)

The next recipe I will post is the traditional and all time favourite Nasi Lemak (fragrant coconut milk rice).


Nasi Lemak

Ingredients For Cooking The Rice

  • 2cups rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 3 pandan leaves (screwpine leaves), tied into knots
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 3 shallots onion, finely chops
  • 1 small piece of ginger slice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 no. star anise(bunga lawang)
  • 4 no. cloves(bunga chingkeh)
  • salt to taste
Ingredients for Sambal Ikan Bilis
  • 1 cup of dried ikan bilis(anchovies)
  • 1 large onion(bombay), slices
  • salt and sugar to taste
  • 5 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 5 tbsp tamarind pulp, 1 cup hot water to make tamarind paste
  • 2 tbsp chilli paste(optional)
  • 4 shallot
  • 1 tbsp belacan(dried prawn paste)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • (to be blend together-chilli, belacan pastes, shallot and garlic)
To Cook Nasi Lemak
  • wash rice and drain, add all the ingredients for cooking rice.
  • bring to boil until water level same with the rice.
  • cover with the lid and simmer with low heat for 15mins.
  • when rice is cook, slowly stirr it with a fork
To Cook Sambal Ikan Bilis
  • heat up the wok and fry ikan bilis until light brown and put aside
  • heat up the wok and saute the blend paste until fragrant
  • add in onion, salt, sugar, tamarind juice, stir well and simmer for 10mins.
  • add in fired ikan bilis mix well and set aside.
For Side Condiments
  • 3 no. hard boiled eggs, cut into half
  • 1/2 no. cucumber slice
  • 1/2 cup roasted or fried peanuts
  • 1 piece of chicken curry or rendang
Now, scoop the rice into a plate. Put the sambal ikan bilis, half boiled eggs, slice cucumber, roasted penuts and chicken curry or rendang at the side of the plate. THERE YOU HAVE IT. A NICE PLATE OF NASI LEMAK. BON APPETITE!!

Nasi Goreng(Fried Rice)


Ingredients For Cooking Nasi goreng
  • 2 cups cooked rice(prefer overnight rice)
  • 2 eggs
  • 100gm mix vegetables
  • 4 no. prawns shelled
  • 1 tsp chopped garlic
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp dark soya sauce
  • salt & pepper to taste
For Side Condiments
  • cucumber & tomato slice
  • 1no. sunny side up fried egg
  • 1 deep fried chicken wing or drumstick
To Cook Fried Rice
  • heat oil in wok, saute garlic until fragrant
  • add prawn, stir well
  • then add rice, dark soya sauce stir fry
  • add egg, salt and pepper to taste
  • fry until all combined with the sauce
When done dish out into a plate and garnish with sunny side up egg, deep fried chicken wing or drumstick and cucumber & tomato.

Fried Koay Teow(Flat Rice Noodle)

Ingredients For Frying Koay Teow
  • 300gm koay toew
  • 250gm bean sprouts
  • 3 tbsp oil (if have use lard oil)
  • 1 no. chinese suasage, slice thinly and fried
  • 2 no. eggs
  • 3 no. prawns
  • 5 no. cockles, shelled and uncook
  • 2 tsp chopped garlic
  • 2 string of chives, cut into 2 inches length
  • 2 tbsp dark soya sauce
  • 1 1/2 sweet thick black sauce
  • salt to taste

To Cook Fried Koay Teow
  • heat wok until smoking hot
  • add in oil and fry garlic until light brown
  • add in prawns, stir fry
  • add in koay teow and bean sprouts
  • add the sauces
  • add in slice chinese sausages
  • add in eggs
  • add in cockles and stir fry for a minute
Dish out into a plate, garnish with chives on top. Serve hot. Yummy!!

Indian Mee Goreng (Fried Yellow Noodle Indian Style)

Ingredients For Frying Indian Mee Goreng
